Two very different markets
The Algarve and Silver Coast are Portugal's two main coastal property markets for international buyers, but they offer fundamentally different experiences.

Algarve: 300+ days of sunshine per year. Mild winters (12-16C), hot dry summers (28-35C). Very little rain May to September.Silver Coast: cooler and wetter. Atlantic-influenced climate with more cloud, wind and rain. Summers are warm but less reliably hot. Winters are milder than northern Europe but cooler than the Algarve.Property prices

Algarve: strong short-term rental market (summer tourism). Albufeira, Lagos and Vilamoura have high AL licence density. Gross yields 4-7% depending on location and management.Silver Coast: growing but smaller rental market. Lower occupancy rates. Better long-term rental yields in some areas near Lisbon commuter belt.Infrastructure

The Algarve suits buyers who want guaranteed sunshine, an established expat community, strong rental returns and resort-style living. The Silver Coast suits buyers who want lower prices, a more Portuguese experience, surf culture and easy access to Lisbon. Many buyers visit both before deciding.
